Official Rules & Prizes

To participate in the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Iowa State Championship Fall Qualifier and be eligible to participate in the MOS U.S. National Championship, students between the ages of 13 and 22 (as of June 15, 2018) must pass one of the following exams by December 15, 2017:

  • Microsoft Office Specialist Word 2013
  • Microsoft Office Specialist Excel 2013
  • Microsoft Office Specialist PowerPoint 2013
  • Microsoft Office Specialist Word 2016
  • Microsoft Office Specialist Excel 2016
  • Microsoft Office Specialist PowerPoint 2016

The student who submits the highest passing score will be named the 2017 MOS Iowa Fall State Champion in their exam track. All exams taken after June 16, 2017 will be factored into the Fall Qualifier. In the case that two or more students submit the same high score, the exam time will be used as a tie-breaker (the exam taken in the least amount of time will win). Students can and are encouraged to retake their MOS exam(s) to improve their score and time. There is no limit to the number of times a student may take an eligible MOS exam, regardless of the pass/fail outcome, as long as the student is not in violation of the exam retake policy.

Six students, one from each exam track, will be invited to the 2018 MOS U.S. National Championship for both the Fall and Spring Qualifier. A total of 12 students will be invited from each state.

During the month of December, the respective Fall state champions will be announced, certificates will be dispersed, and invitations will be extended to participate in the MOS U.S. National Championship in Atlanta, Georgia, June 13-15, 2018.

In addition to the MOS State Championship specific rules, the MOS World Championship rules also apply.
